Department announces 2016 recipients of the Larry Duda Undergraduate Research Award
4/15/2016
Four students in the Department of Chemical Engineering have been named 2016 recipients of the Larry Duda Undergraduate Student Research Award.
The award provides special funding to students who have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate research. Students are encouraged to use the funds to offset travel and registration fees for scientific meetings, in which they have the opportunity to present research finding and results.
This year’s winners include: Emelia Conte, for research contributions within the lab of Manish Kumar; Siyang Liu, for research accomplishments in collaboration with Ron Danner; Nolan O’Connor, for research contributions supporting Michael Janik; and Bryan Smith, for research accomplishments under the direction Enrique Gomez.
The Larry Duda Undergraduate Research Award was established in honor and remembrance of J. Larry Duda, a valued faculty member in the Penn State Department of Chemical Engineering. Duda served the department for more than 30 years, including 17 years as the chemical engineering department head.
The annual award recognizes exemplary research at the undergraduate level, with an aim to expand research opportunities within the department and at Penn State.
