Chemical Engineering alumnus receives multiple prestigious honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Raj Shah, director of the New York-based company Koehler Instrument Company, was recently honored by the International Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) at its recent annual meeting in Minneapolis. Shah received the P.M. Ku Medal, one of the highest honors bestowed by the STLE. The award was established in 1978 to recognize outstanding and selfless achievements.
STLE is among the premier international technical society serving the needs of more than 13,000 individuals and numerous companies and organizations worldwide that comprise the tribology petroleum and lubrication engineering business sector. STLE members are experts who research, develop and market the methods and products that make industry more successful and that enhance the well-being of people worldwide. Its members are employed by the world's leading corporations and academic institutions and by governmental agencies dealing with science and technology.
Shah is the youngest member to ever receive the P.M. Ku Medal.
Shah is an active Penn State alumnus. He wa the Engineering Department representative on the Graduate Alumni board of directors of Penn State University. A chartered scientist with the Science Council, he is also currently on the IPAC committee of The School of Engineering, Design, Technology and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) at Pennsylvania State University.
Along with his medal, Shah was recently honored by the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) with its John A. Bellanti Sr. Memorial Award, which is typically only given to an individual who has performed extensive service and helped foster growth and progress in the grease industry. The NLGI is primarily composed of companies who manufacture and market all types of lubricating greases, and it is the largest professional institute within the grease industry.
Shah was also honored by the NLGI India chapter earlier this year with its first-ever long service award. The NLGI India chapter is the largest professional organization dealing with grease manufacturers and suppliers in Asia.
Finally, Shah was recently elected within the Engineering Council, UK to the position of Chartered Engineer. As per the Engineering Council, chartered engineers are characterized by their ability to develop appropriate solutions to engineering problems through innovation, creativity and change.
