A three-time recipient of the Award of Excellence by ASTM International, Raj Shah (ChE '95) was recently honored with the organization’s prestigious Eagle Award.
Chemical engineering alumnus presented with prestigious honor by ASTM International

The American Society for Testing and Materials International recently presented Penn State chemical engineering alumnus, Raj Shah, with its prestigious Eagle Award at a recent meeting. The award honors exceptional meritorious service within ASTM International, a standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a number of materials, products, systems and services.
According to an ASTM citation for the award, Shah received the Eagle Award for his “distinguished leadership as well as significant contributions to the standardization process over the last many decades.”
Shah graduated from Penn State in 1995 and has spent 20 years as a technical office bearer and member of ASTM International. He currently serves as the Director of Holtsville, New York based Koehler Instrument.
He is also a previous three-time recipient of ASTM International’s Award for Excellence, an exceptional distinction. A National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) International Fellow, Shah was also recently honored as the first recipient of the NLGI (India) President’s award.
Previously, Shah served as a College of Engineering representative for Penn State’s Graduate School Alumni Society (GSAS), and has maintained close ties with the University. He is also currently involved in working with several other universities and is on the Industrial Board of Advisers at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the State University of New York, Stony Brook; The School of Engineering, Design, Technology and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) at Penn State; and the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, Tribology and Lubrication Science minor at Auburn University.
Shah lives with his wife, Niloufar, (ChE ’96), and their son in Long Island, NY, where they are active in the paddling community.
