Savage Wins Energy & Fuels Joint Award for Excellence in Publication


Phillip E. Savage, chemical engineering department head and Walter L. Robb Family Endowed Chair, is the senior author of the article selected for the inaugural Energy & Fuels Joint Award for Excellence in Publication.

Savage’s article, titled “Hydrothermal Liquefaction and Gasification of Nannochloropsis sp,” was selected among many top nominations. The award was created to honor an outstanding article published in Energy & Fuels within the last five years.

As part of the honor, Savage was invited to speak at the 250th American Chemical Society (ACS) National meeting and Exposition August 16-20 in Boston where he will present a lecture based on research related to the article.

Savage has been the head of the chemical engineering department at Penn State since August 2014. Previously, he served as the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor and interim chair of chemical engineering at the University of Michigan.

He is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the ACS; has authored of more than 190 refereed publications; and has lectured at dozens of conferences and universities.

The Energy & Fuels Division of ACS is a vital and growing community of scientists, engineers and policy experts. The ACS journal, Energy & Fuels, publishes fully vetted, reliable and high-quality research results in the technical area of chemistry and chemical engineering and the application domain of energy and fuels.
